Suzanne Crocker

Philosophy:

Crocker’s paintings are largely focused on the concept of isolation and connectivity. She recognizes that while an object or person may appear alone, they are in reality part of something much larger than themselves. Her belief that all sentient life is connected is reflected in her work. Through integration of color fields, mark-making and other painterly happenings, forms and colors work together to create an allegory for the interconnected symphony called life. So whether there is a recognizable subject or if the painting is more abstract, the commonality of Crocker’s work is the dichotomy of being awake vs. being calm and meditative. Her paintings of solitary buildings have been described as “alive” with color and spirituality yet simultaneously very peaceful.

“Do whatever you do intensely.”
–Robert Henri

“We are visitors on this planet. We are here for ninety or one hundred years at the very most. During that period, we must try to do something good, something useful with our lives. If you contribute to other people’s happiness, you will find the true goal, the true meaning of life.”
-H.H. The 14th Dalai Lama

Background:

Crocker is listed in Marquis Who’s Who in the World. Her award-winning paintings are shown at several galleries throughout the United States, and she is gaining international attention.

Suzanne Crocker’s most influential teachers include Wolf Kahn and Cynthia Packard, two master painters and colorists whose own styles developed from their exposure to Hans Hofmann, a renowned catalyst of Abstract Expressionism. Additionally Crocker studied at Montserrat College of Art and the University of Pennsylvania, where she received her BA in art history.
