The driving force behind my work stems from childhood memories and recollections of experiences as a young girl growing up where religion and life’s delicate teeter-totter with death existed.
Over the past ten years, a repeated series of staged self- portrait photographs served as the works incentive. Until recently, these images were interpreted exclusively through paintings and drawings, however, the latest work has branched out beyond the two – dimensional surface and the aesthetic of the materials, once used as props, became sculptural interpretations unto themselves. This central theme continues to materialize in a variety of treatments; the hollow garments, the wrapped and tied bundles and the ropes, chairs and shadows all play their part and serves as the basis for this continuing body of work.
